There has been a myth that tells us that many many years ago, there was a couple that fell in love, and had 100 babies. 50 went to the sea with the father, and 50 with the mother, then came the whole Vietnamese population starting with those 100 children.

In many houses in Vietnam, there are three statues of people dressed all fancy and powerful who are the kitchen gods (which is yet another tale). We pray and give respect to the kitchen gods and in return, we hope for a clean kitchen and, additionally, happiness in our families in the new year so this is done during Tet.

Based off of the tale of Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh, many come to believe that Thuy Tinh is the reason why there are monsoons every year, for he still mourns the victory he never had against Son Tinh, but we also believe that every year, Son Tinh protects the land against Thuy Tinh.

Standing up for our own nation is emphasized most popularly through the story of Thanh Giong, but also the courage from many real heroes from the past such as The Trung Sisters (Hai Bà TrÆ°ng) or Le Loi (Lê Lợi). Although The Trung Sisters committed suicide shortly after starting a revolution against the Chinese, they inspired the rest of the nation to continue the revolution and despite still losing to the enemies at the time, the people were given hope afterwards and more motivated to fight for their country.
